How to Free Up Space on Hard Drive in Windows
XP Click on the "Start" button and the Start menu is displayed. Click on "Control Panel" and you will see "Pick a Category" in the control panel window. Click on the "Performance and Maintenance" option and the Performance and Maintenance window will be displayed. You will see two options, "Pick a Task" or "Pick a Control Panel icon". Both of these options will provide you with the results you are looking for. Click on the "Free up disk space" option. Windows will scan several areas of your hard disk for temporary files you can get rid of. A "Disk Cleanup" window will open displaying several options of cleanup to choose from. Under "Files to delete" click the box next to the option where you wish to delete files. You can also view the files in your "Recycle Bin" before deleting them. Click on "View Files". Click on the "More Options" tab. There are three additional options you can use if you get in a bind for disk space or just want to keep your hard disk current: Windows Components: You can remove windows components that you don't use. Installed Programs: You can remove installed programs that you don't use. System Restore: You can remove old system restore points and keep only the most current point. Click the cleanup options you wish and click "OK" to initiate the procedure.
