How to Speed Up My Computer
Following any or all of these steps should help speed up your windows XP based computer.
Disable Windows "Bells and Whistles"
Right click "My Computer" Click the "Advanced" tab Click "Settings" in the performance section Check the 3rd option - "Adjust for Best Performance"
Make Sure Your Computer is Virus Free
Following the link above will direct you to our new virus information/tools page. You'll find a multitude of tools to help cleanse your computer of viruses and spy/adware.
Turn Off Unnecessary Windows XP Services
Go to the "Control Panel" Click "Administrative Tools" Click "Services"
The first service you should disable is the windows messenger service. Here's a link that will show you how to turn off the windows messenger service.
Next, right click on any service you would like to disable and select properties. Then you simply need to change the "startup type" to disabled or manual.
Keep track of which services you are disabling. Terminating the wrong service can lead to BIG problems. If you're unsure of what a service does, type it's name in Google to locate an explanation of it's primary purpose.
Following these simple steps will help you give your computer a little extra "juice" and should improve your over all system performance.
Although it won't speed up your computer, blocking pop ups for free will make your computing experience much more enjoyable.
